The increasing use of high-brilliancy lasers within the kilowatt range not only bring about progress as to efficiency and processing quality, but also difficulties in the process stability when laser beam cutting, welding and soldering. For a stable process control it is necessary to exactly determine important parameters such as focal position, command variables, like the width of kerf or welding seams, and beam power in order to control them. The focal position, which has not been able to be controlled up to now, is a process parameter that can vary during the process due to the influence of versatile factors. Latest aims are, therefore, a process control for laser beam cutting that enables a refeed on the active focal position and that generates a correcting variable for it. Therefore, the generated inline process control is able to make the process more stable and to increase the quality of the produced parts.
